Emphasizing the Legacy of Ahilyabai Holkar

On Sunday, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari expressed his disappointment regarding the lack of efforts to transform society by prioritizing the ideals of Ahilyabai Holkar. He urged for a rational approach towards establishing statues of historical figures and renaming cities in their honor.

Speaking at an event commemorating the 300th birth anniversary of Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar in Nagpur, Gadkari questioned, 'While we erect statues, do we truly listen to the thoughts of such great personalities?'

He highlighted that Ahilyabai Holkar championed social and economic equality irrespective of caste, religion, or gender. 'These were her principles,' he noted. While we pay tribute to illustrious historical figures, we often lose sight of their teachings and merely focus on erecting statues and renaming places. I am not opposed to this, but there has been little effort to advance society through Ahilyabai's ideals, which were the foundation of her life and work.'
